Crochet Class: Working with Plush Yarn: Octopus

Dive into the cozy world of plush yarn and learn several helpful techniques while crafting your very own huggable Octopus.

What You’ll Learn:

  1. Pattern Modifications: Plush yarn works up quick. We will learn techniques for shaping and how to convert most amigurumi patterns to use plush yarn.
  2. Magic Ring: Plush yarn can be fragile, so techniques like the Magic Ring can be a bit delicate, but we will learn how to get around this.
  3. Yarn Under/X stitch: The texture of your plushie will vary depending on whether you yarn over, or yarn under, with your stitches. This can also affect the tightness of your stitches and whether your stuffing shows.
  4. Invisible Decreases: This is another technique to make sure you maintain good shaping and decrease the size of the holes in your plushies.

Materials Needed:

  • Plush Blanket Yarn (#6 Super Bulky). Bernat Blanket and Premier Parfait are good choices.
  • Worsted Yarn in small amounts for eyes (black, white, complimentary color)
  • Crochet Hook L or size suggested for your yarn (or a bit smaller), and E/F for worsted yarn
  • Polyfil or other Stuffing
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

By the end of this class, you’ll not only have a charming plush octopus to call your own but also the skills and confidence to continue exploring the world of plush yarn crafting. Join us for a fun-filled session of creativity, laughter, and the joy of bringing a cuddly companion to life!
