Avoiding gaps in your work
Take a look at the size hook recommended on the yarn label and reduce your hood size by 1-2 sizes.
Choosing Colors
When working with Plush yarn, it is harder to see your stitches, so try working with lighter/brighter colors.
Yarn Under vs Yarn Over
In order to get your stitches to line up (and not drift) and to get a consistent surface texture (an X vs a Y shape), work the first Yarn Over as a Yarn Under.
Stuffing
Fluff out your stuffing avoid putting large clumps.
Yarn Breaks when making Magic Ring/Circle
I use the Yarn Under technique with my amigurumi, but I find this can make the stitches even tighter, so I find that using the Yarn Over technique on this Magic Ring row and work my stitches looser, or use a slightly larger hook.
Yarn Frays
Plush yarn is a lot more fragile, so be as gentle as possible when pulling on the yarn (when sewing pieces together or pulling out stitches).
Seamless Color Changes
There are lots of “Seamless” Color Change methods, but it is important to find one you like. There is an example of my favorite in the 2nd video below.
Magic Ring Substitute
Chain 2, work the number of starting row stitches in the 2nd chain from the hook. Shown in 2nd video below.
Invisible Decrease
Another way to prevent holes in your work is to work an Invisible Decrease when Decreases are required. In this method, the decrease is worked in the Front Loops only of your work.
